Counseling is a versatile tool that can be utilized for a variety of reasons based on individual needs. For instance, some individuals may seek counseling to tackle specific problems, while others may not have a clear starting point. The duration of counseling may vary and can be either brief or long-term, depending on the individual's requirements. Furthermore counseling strategies can be customized according to personal preferences and objectives. I strive to match what you are looking for.

Counseling Modalities

With compassion and listening, I will work with you to name your underlying issues, help you to clarify your beliefs, and help you to release limiting beliefs and behavioral patterns. My goal is to support you, to deepen your ability for self-reflection, acceptance, and life purpose. I will honor your strengths and help you to work through life transitions. You have a right to determine what type of approach to counseling best suits your needs. Although some people just want to talk to someone, there are additional methods that assist people to feel better. This done by assessing needs and developing a plan of action. Below is a list of counseling approaches/styles that I offer:

Assessments/Evaluations:

  • Using the DSM-5, I can diagnose, evaluate both mental health and addiction issues, and then tell you what professional treatment services are recommended by the American Psychiatric Association.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT):

  • Focuses on changing negative thought patterns and behaviors, and promoting coping strategies and behavior modification.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)/Trauma:                                                                                   EMDR is primarily used to help individuals process distressing memories and experiences, especially those related to trauma. It has been widely used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) but is also applied to various other mental health issues.

Grief and loss counseling:

  • Learn recommendations for those who are going through the grief process.

Marriage counseling:

  • This psychotherapy aims to help couples resolve conflicts and improve their relationships. By exploring and addressing issues affecting the relationship, the couple is able to resolve conflict and build a stronger relationship. I integrate John Gottman's marraige counseling model. Key aspects of couples counseling:

Improve communication                 Resolve conflict                 Understanding relationship patterns                 Build emotional connection

Address individual issues             Relationship distress        Pre-marital counseling                                          Family dynamics

Set goals                                              Increase empathy              Improve sex and intimacy

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT):

  • Find solutions to current problems rather than exploring the root causes. The focus is to identify and building on the client's strengths and resources to achieve goals.

Family Systems Therapy:

  • This therapy views individuals as part of a larger family system and examines family dynamics. The focus is evaluating interactions and patterns within the family that contribute to individual issues.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy:

  • This type of therapy is used to help people accept where they are in life, adjust to life, and move forward. We all need support from time to time with life.

EAP Counseling:

  • Talk about and problem solve workplace issues.

  • Support for first responders.

Narrative Therapy:

  • This approach views individuals as storytellers and helps them rewrite their life narratives. The focus is on examining and reshaping the stories people tell about themselves to promote positive change.

LGBTYQ/transgender specific issues:

  • Support Support for all areas of gender identification, relationship issues, family issues, transition into the person you are, and support for surgeries.

DBT/Dialectical Behavioral Therapy:

  • Learn specific tools to help you regulate your emotions.  DBT is skill building. It combines cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness strategies which focuses on emotional regulation, mindfulness strategies, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance.

.

Educational Addiction Counseling:
